The 17th century pub is never called 'The White Horse' by locals; it has been known as "Nellie's" for at least 80 years. Research by a Beverley Historian, John Markham, shows that until 1928 the premises were owned by St. Mary’s church (across the road), until sold to the tenant, Francis Collinson. After 1939 Nellie, his daughter and eldest of... More

A great Sam Smiths pub. Their extra stout is always consistently fresh, and they treat their beer well. Lovely fires in all rooms during winter. Gas lighting pretty atmospheric. Definitely not modern / bijou / "gastropub"!

My friends and myself were on our mini tour and decided to take in the sights of Beverley. It is a quaint town with pleasant Town Square. One of our party had done his homework and wanted to visit The White Horse Inn better known as Nellies. I must say it is a curious place with lots of little nooks... More

No visit to Beverley would be complete without a visit to Nellie's. This is a real one-off: The coal fires, the gas lights, the small rooms, the atmosphere, the conversation with strangers and the beer at £2 a pint. DO NOT MISS

Known locally as "Nellie's" after a previous owner, The White Horse is a pub experience not to be missed. Walk through the front door and do a double-take as you are transported back in time at least a hundred years. The 'decor' has seemingly not been touched for ages and there are numerous small rooms throughout the pub most of... More

It's always nice to have somewhere to take friends when they visit that is unusual, Nellies never disappoints. Quaint, gas light, friendly, always busy, but service with a smile. Good selection of beers, especially the Organic fruit beers!

I can guarantee you wont ever have been in a pub like this. Its old, antiquated and steeped in history. Warning - very poorly lit and unbelievably uneven tiled floors which may be a problem to sight impaired or infirm visitors. But this adds to the charm, uniqueness of this little gem. Food is lovely. Beer is great. Its a... More

Have been visiting The White Horse Inn (aka Nellies) for years, but not reviewed it before. It has a unique old world atmosphere. There are a multitude of little rooms, nooks and crannies to sit in and drink. They are all fairly dark with interesting pictures and other paraphernalia on the walls. The beer (Sam Smiths) is of high quality... More

We always visit Nellies whenever we go to Beverley. It really is like stepping back in time with open fires, gas lighting and lots of small rooms. The people are friendly and the beer is great. What more can be said?
