This 19th century Fort includes a museum highlighting coastal defence. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The advances in technology that affected the fort are explained through many displays, exhibits and audio visual facilities located on the ramparts, gun decks and maze of underground passageways. Enjoy the stunning and far reaching views of the Jurassic Coast from the picnic areas on the Ramparts. These will provide one of the best vantage points on the south coast.

Very windy day but this did not detract from the experience of going around. Had a lovely time touring round at my own pace with my grandson in his stroller. The addition of the lift was brilliant. Saw the school education trip and thought this...More

We paid £18 for a family visit and worth every penny! The children absolutely loved wandering around looking for the play mice which were part of a game. Was fascinating to walk around! Underestimated the size of it and how long it would take to...More

no bus service, but it's quite easy to access if you walk along the jetty and up the lifeboat station

I think so. I don't think you could take a dog into the inside of the fort, but you could probably at least walk the battlements and sit in the cafes patio

l think it's 11.00 til 4.30pm but it's doesn't admit anyone else in an hour before closing. Seniors are a pound cheaper than normal entrance fee.
