Overview
More
This 19th century Fort includes a museum highlighting coastal defence. Built by the Victorians to protect Portland Harbour, Nothe Fort is one of the best preserved forts of its kind. The advances in technology that affected the fort are explained through many displays, exhibits and audio visual facilities located on the ramparts, gun decks and maze of underground passageways. Enjoy the stunning and far reaching views of the Jurassic Coast from the picnic areas on the Ramparts. These will provide one of the best vantage points on the south coast.

Three levels of local history, from Roman right through to Thatcher-era nuclear bunker. Plenty to see, and a cafe to boot. Very enjoyable.

Well worth the 8 pounds we paid and that will give you a year pass too! Very interesting old fort that was built in the 1860s but repurposed for WW2. There is an amazing display of matchstick model warships too!

We had a lovely walk around the gardens and along the coastal path and were curious to see inside the fort. It felt like a realistic experience of the fort during the wartime and has been well preserved. Loved the maze of underground passages which...More

no bus service, but it's quite easy to access if you walk along the jetty and up the lifeboat station

I think so. I don't think you could take a dog into the inside of the fort, but you could probably at least walk the battlements and sit in the cafes patio

l think it's 11.00 til 4.30pm but it's doesn't admit anyone else in an hour before closing. Seniors are a pound cheaper than normal entrance fee.
