Living in the area I've been to this market countless times over the years and I can say with absolute certainty that it's past its best in terms of cleanliness, variety, value for money, and general appeal. The staple butchers, fishmongers, and cheesemongers are just about all that's worth visiting for now. An array of overpriced knitting supplies, collectors items,... More

Smells really bad. Stalls are way to overpriced but some decent places . I would go here but only if had too.

It was nice to see proper butchers in amongst the numerous stalls crammed in here. It was also a pleasure not to have the usual suspects one finds at every other market stall. One stall with Turkish lamps etc was the most interesting we have ever seen. We only popped in for a minute or two for a quick look,... More

The market is worth a half hour visit. It's a bit different in terms of stalls. Some traditional others more surprising. Amazing shoe shop and even a wine and gin stall.

I like this old market because its cosy and has different types of shops. From meat to toys you can find something that you might desire. Worth the visit, recommended.

Had a walk round the market- well worth having a walk round- you will find some thing to buy which you can pick up from your local super market! very nice old building-some history in the building

I enjoyed walking around this old market hall. it gave some insight to what it would have been like a hundred or so years ago and the tobacconist, such a rarity these days I am pleased to say, was fascinating and may not have changed much for decades apart from the health warnings. I did not find anything I needed... More

We were in Durham for an afternoon The indoor market is a great piece of English history, with the various shops, restaurant upstairs and a nice historical building. Definitely worth a look.

Worth a look around for a typical old market - I don't know the age but the entrances look very historic and contains a warren of aisles with all sorts of stalls and a mezzanine café looking out over the river

Thank chris e
