This is an amazing building. Although the mansion is closed, it's still lovely to walk around the grounds. The mansion belonged to Singer sewing machine inventor. Such a shame it is just sitting there unloved

This beautiful building is falling into disrepair and is closed to the public. Torbay council did a disservice to Paignton residents by selling it off to a developer who has failed to do the agreed development, and has left the building to the elements. The...More

Isaac Merritt had this built for himself and his French wife. He was the founder of the Singer Sewing Machine company, no expense was spared but unfortunately it needs money spent on it to return it to its former glory. The gardens are maintained and...More

As a house it is beautiful , it's a pity the council has it locked up , they don't seem to be looking after it ,the gardens are quite well looked after , parking is free, you wouldn't believe you were in Paignton .

No, in fact it has never been a hotel. It was the home of the Singer family (sewing machines), then given to the people of Paignton & used as council offices & Register Office. The reason it is closed now is that the council... More
