Was in Belfast for May weekend so paid Holywood a visit for the Maypole. Small town but a great atmosphere, loads to see, lovely stalls in the town centre, entertainment for the kids, maypole dancing, everyone very friendly.

The Maypole in Holywood is a centre piece for the May Day celebrations. Every year there is a fantastic market, which leads up the maypole where there is a dance. Well worth a visit as Holywood is just outside of Belfast and is accessible by...More

My father & I popped into the Maypole during a quick visit to Holywood recently. We were impressed by the hospitality shown by the landlord & regulars & wished we could have stayed longer in this very welcoming pub.

Unless you are visiting Holywood on May Day or some other local festival all you will see is a large pole at the crossroads in the centre of town, so nothing of note really!

I see this pole in the middle of a cross roads every day as I go to work. It certainly is in an odd place but am sure it looks good in full swing.

Proper old irish pub on the main street.Feels like you've stepped back into the 19th (18th?) century. Friendly bar staff and lots of locals. Will be back for a pre-dinner drink next time we go for a meal in Fontana.

This pole may have allot of historical significance but other than seeing a pole in the middle of road there is not much else to see or learn at this site. Perhaps the maypole pub adjacent could provide some historical info on pole Ives pint....More
