Being that we went in mid March to Isle of Man, the Manx Electric Railway only opened up a week or two prior. It's the very beginning of the tourist season and not all attractions are opened up for business. We took the Electric Railway from the Laxey station to Ramsey. Tickets can be purchased at the rail station ala... More

A step back in time on the Manx Electric Railway, it goes all the way to Ramsey but we stopped off at Laxey then caught the next tramcar to Ramsey, stunning views all the of the coastline and from the cliffs.

We travelled from Derby Castle to Ramsey on a sunny March morning. The tramway hugs the cliffs in parts offering stunning views of the pretty bays and harbours which the island has to offer. Also passing woods and fields there are ample opportunities to spot the abundance of wildlife on the island. The trams themselves have been authentically restored and... More

We took the Ramsey to Douglas return option, simply because there is more parking in Ramsey. Within 10 minutes of leaving the terminus the coastal scenery is breathtakingly beautiful and it remains picturesque for the whole journey. The well preserved and maintained rolling stock is a clanking, squealing, whistling and boneshaking delight as it covers the route at a pace... More

the manx electric railway which runs from the far end of Douglas promenade to Ramsey in the north east is a remarkable railway. The trams travel at a sedate speed which gives you time to appreciate the wonderful scenery of the island. The trams stop at Laxey on route to Ramsey and you can get off and take the snaffel railway tram... A unique experience on a an old time well preserved railway system. My journey started from the Terminal at Douglas, passed through some of the most varied coastline on our journey to Ramsey. At Laxey you have the option of transferring to the Mountain railway to the summit of Snaefell (where you can see six nations) or to continue to... More

Train journey is great. However we took the 1040 tram. Having walked to the terminus, my wife needed the loo. None available. The lady on the desk helpfully informed us that even she would have until 12 when the pub opened. I don't know how elderly coach parties cope as there is no toiket on the train and the journey... Great old vintage rolling stock which is maintained in good running order. I have been on this railway numerous times over the years and really enjoy this relaxed mode of transport even though you do get flung around on the rickety tracks. It's slow, but beautiful scenery allows you to unwind. It links Douglas to Laxey on the East coast... More

Genuine and living history. Very well run antique electric railway like no other. Enjoy the beauty of the island's open countryside and coast, mountains and streams.

It is well worth taking a trip (or 2) on these quaint little carriages which cover large areas of the island. Very reasonably priced, helpful and friendly staff, and a lovely way to enjoy the scenery... The 'ride' can be a bit noisy, draughty, bumpy, but that is part of the charm :-) Lots of options to choose from route/timing... More
