I want you to check the opening times before you go because I walked all the way from the town (about 15 minutes), in the rain, and it was closed. I had read one of the tourist leaflets which gave the opening times and it...More

After finding out before our trip that the Obscura was closed for the season, my son was very disappointed. A keen photographer and fanatic of unusual architecture. I contacted them directly on the off chance that someone may be working up there, and to my...More

Slightly disappointing once you're in there as it only takes about 10 minutes (ample time) to view everything but it's interesting to see how they used to view pictures in the olden days. The fabulous thing is the passion that the volunteers have about this...More

Built in 1892, the Camera Obscura on Douglas Head, Isle of Man is a fascinating example of Victorian ingenuity. Through a series of lenses, live views of the surrounding area are projected onto screens.

This is a very unusual Camera Obscura which was designed with 12 lenses although only 11 are now working. The Curators are very welcoming and informative and must be admired for their voluntary contribution. Although a little out of the way if you don't have transport...More

Don't expect to find the Camara Obscura open when you turn up! I think it is only open half a day Saturday and/or Sunday..but then it says on the outside it is run by volunteers so that is why!

Although tiny and only open in the afternoons at weekends, this was an unusual place. Only £1 for seniors and we could watch the wind blowing the grasses and the waves bobbing up outside without getting cold or wet. A credit to the volunteers who...More
