A Century’s Stance Of Honour.
Jun 2021 • Family
This rather serious and sombre war memorial stands in the little urban Wellmeadow Park , with nicely cultivated gardens bordering it. The memorial consists of a bronze Scottish soldier dressed in regulation trench coat , and standing with his head bowed in honour, hands resting on his rifle. It was crafted by Alexander Carrick - Scotland’s master of monumental sculptures , to commemorate the 175 local men who lost their lives during the Great War (1914 - 1918) Metal plaques on the stone plinth are engraved with the names of the fallen men. It was unveiled on the 21st June 1921. The park’s in the very lively and busy heart of the town, so it’s good to have an important memorial of the past to keep people grounded in these hectic times.

A place for Remembrance
Nov 2020
We visited here on Remembrance Sunday and it was very emotional to witness the pipe players and short service of remembrance at this fine memorial in this strange year when social distancing must be obeyed and crowds could not gather. The monument is right in the heart of the town in a small garden with trees and a very peaceful atmosphere.

Blairgowrie War Memorial

This is an important and emotional memorial that fully rates its position in a nice little park at the heart of Blairgowrie. We should never forget those who sacrificed their lives for their country.

Overnight stay in Angus Hotel

Nice well kept garden in front of hotel. Autumn visit so gardens not at their best but could see they are well planted and would be lovely in Summer. Nice benches particularly Remembrance bench facing monument.

War Memorial and park

Grab a coffee and take a moment to stop at the War Memorial to read the names of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Great place for photos at night and during the day.

Right in the middle of town, you can't miss it. Plenty of car parking spaces close to hand, situated in a nice little park.

Oasis of calm in the bustling centre
Jan 2019 • Solo
One of the best located Memorials I have seen set in a triangular park with plenty of seating. The memorial stands in the centre . A tall column with brass plaques recording the first and second World wars also the Korean war with the various regimental losses. the Brass sculpture of a soldier is very striking . There is well maintained flower beds and grass lawns There is also a well at the entrance that serves as a reminder of the springs that gave Wellmeadow its name . The Memorial is by Mr Alexander Carrick, RSA, RNS
