Love this area just behind Brighton. Walked many parts of it. Soft, gentle hills, a few rivers and abundant wildlife. Favourite views; from behind Woodingdean looking towards Mount Caburn and Firle Beacon in distance. On top of Mount Caburn looking south. The Seven Sisters are breathtaking and walking North along the river rather than south (where all the tourists go) is quieter, lots of character with small villages, wildlife and history.

The Midhurst South Downs visitor centre was setout in a modern pleasing to the eye fashion. Great map covering the whole of the South Downs Way. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Went hiking from Hassocks to Lewes so can only speak on that part of southdowns park. It has beautiful views, long stretches of land that seem never ending and the great fresh air on a summers day, what a treat.

The SDNP is not a place, its a thing. A totalitarian and undemocratic power base, created at the cost of £12m per year. It controls the use of your own hopuse and garden and seeks to expand. Its not to be encouraded. So, this is a misdescription.
There's no parking.
There will be even less of it soon.
Everything you see is not done by SDNP , its done by the landowners, after being put through a death of a thousand cuts by SDNP.
Living here is cursed

Very lucky to have the park on our doorstep meaning it is perfect for a spot of lockdown exercise as and when. But I was amazed at the weekend at the scenery created by the recent cold snap. The walk along the South Downs Way was like a Winter wonderland. Mother Nature sure has a way of of amazing us even in these challenging times. Just look at the photos.

I have lived in West Sussex for almost all of my life but the South Downs National Park is large enough that it’s quite possible to visit a new place on each visit. The National Park isn’t very old and the infrastructure is quite thin on the ground but the Downland walking is always spectacular. The views towards the sea, inland across the Weald and along the river valleys are all great and the gentle nature of the downs is such that climbing to a hilltop from sea level is manageable for most. I’m lucky that I can visit by walking from home but I love to show it off to visitors at every opportunity.

Depending on where you are traveling from, the roads can be quite tight for space, but once you are there - wow.
Fortunately the cars we came across had the same polite drivers as we were and gave way where possible.
The views at Black Down at Tennyson’s Lane GU27 3BJ were awesome.
We were there late Sunday and it was fairly quite. We got to see some hot air balloons take of in the distance that added to the experience.
There are some pretty spectacular properties you pass on route too.

Daily exercise during lockdown has seen us walk many of the paths across he western end of the South Downs. So relaxing on a sunny day will plenty of fantastic views and things to see with various wildlife and fauna. Beautiful walks and fantastic vistas from the various hills.

Beautiful drive through the park, even on a rainy, windy day. Beautiful views, lots of wide open spaces as well as forest. Would recommend

I want to go for a day trip from London and want to come back to London before 5pm. I can start driving around 8 in the morning. Can anyone please suggest me a walking trail which is not more than 2/3 hours? If anyone can help me with the postcode of a car park that will be highly appreciable. Thank you.

Getting started: - Park in the free CP at Cowdray Park, Easebourne, near the Cowdray farm Shop and Cafe, and walk to the Queen Elizabeth Oak near Stewards Pond. Its about 1000 years old. Including return about 3 miles and its over the Midhurst Way. Google the route.
Park in the free CP at Woolbeding NT where the lane leaves the A272. It takes 10 cars only and there is no sign outside. Walk Woolbeding Parkland - its all open - and do the circular route via Midhurst. Easy to follow. Could do it easily from the Swan, about 2 miles.

Midhurst is a dog friendly town with most shops and cafes happy to see well-behaved dogs on a lead. Not all b&b's take dogs - you'll need to check.
There are several good off-lead walkies for dogs. Start in near-by Easebourne A276 free CP adjoining the Cowdray Farm Shop and Cafe and walk down the estate road - now called the Midhurst Way - to Cowdray Castle, thence over the River Rother and up the Causeway to North Street. Or, continue from Cowdray Castle along the river bank to the old town and Midhurst Square. For more walks look up Cowdray Park Walks in Google. Paid parking in North St CP and at the Grange.

Base yourself in Midhurst. B&B or several good hotels. Walk to Easebourne via Cowdray Castle along the River Rother from St Ann's Hill. Or, walk from A272 CP at Woolbeding turning to Whiphill Wood and Woolbeding Parkland. Or park at A272 CP at Benbow Pond on the Cowdray estate, visit the 1000 year old QE Oak, & complete 35 minute circular walk.
There are several good attractions locally including the Weald and Downland Museum at Singleton.
Motoring over to Arundel to the castle and back shows amazing panoramas of the downs and River Ouse. Same again visiting the Mardens.
For a luxury pub lunch visit the Duke of Cumberland in Henley, just north of Midhurst. Panoramic views, acres of gardens, local walks. Look up Midhurst River Walk and Cowdray Walks for more walking info and pictures.
