This castle ruin is well hidden from view but well signposted and won't disappoint on arrival. Gerry at reception was very helpful and informative thou it is worth noting this is not an NTS property but historic Scotland thou the car park Is free.

Unlike so many castles these days, this one is relatively well cared for and kept. Very informative guide at the entrance and really knows his stuff about the history. The castle itself has many wee winding staircases that you can actually access and some of...More

A gem of a castle in an area where castles are quite common. The history positively leaps out at you challenging visitors to seek further information. It certainly meirts a vist if you are in the Gordon area of Aberdeenshire.

A lovely tranquil Scottish Castle ruin. Beautiful grounds. Beautiful scenery. Listed with Historic Scotland, small shop on site. Helpful, knowledgeable staff. Well worth taking a picnic along and eating in the grounds. A bit off the beaten track so take you snacks with you. I...More

My wife and I arrived on a wet day to find the castle totally empty apart from us. The staff on reception were helpful and friendly and the prices very reasonable. We bought a guide book as we found the signs weren’t sufficient to properly...More

Situated at the end of a single track road, there is plenty of car parking available. The building was designed as more of a fortified residence than a castle and was never attacked. Several buildings to wander around in and plenty of space for a picnic.

On our across Scotland trip to get to the Outer Hebrides, we stopped here, bought our Explorer pass (for seniors) and spent about an hour photographing. The attendant gave us a bunch of information which made the castle almost come alive. We wish we could...More

My wife and I visited Tolquhon castle whilst on holiday in the area. It is around 1 mile off the B999 down a narrow single-track lane and past a farm, so the road can be quite muddy and rough. There is plenty of parking adjacent...More

Nice ruin to explore with a fair amount of history behind it. Not to expensive (£5 for an adult) unlike other National Trust castles. Was slightly out the way compared to other attractions meaning we had it almost to ourselves.

I think yes, on a leash it should be ok. I'm afraid we have no dog and I have not seen any dogs there.
