Located about an hour's drive north of Lyon, and one of the better-known sites on the Route des Chateaux en Bourgogne du Sud, Flecheres is well worth the visit. Constructed in the 1630's by a Protestant noble family from Lyon, the chateau was designed to incorporate a protected place of worship as its centrepiece and with living quarters in its... More

I have been fascinated by the Chateau de Flecheres for nearly forty years as I visit this part of France regularly and it has been astounding to see it brought back to life slowly but surely with the renovations that are taking place. From being the setting for a famous French film in the sixties to the restoration of its... More

Chateau and grounds are superb- a real insight into the middle ages. However, in spite of a 9 euro per person fee, there is little attempt to cater for English speaking travellers. Nearly 1/3 of the group were English speaking. Your are thrown a folder with about 10 pages of description of the various rooms and that is it. At... More

Flecheres was built by a friend of Henri IV during the late XVI Century From the outside it looks like a classical if austere Renaissance Castle. Yet it conceals its purpose which was to be a Protestant Temple at a time when Protestants were being massacred by the Catholics. The Temple was in the main body of the castle on... More
