This is the ruins of a Greek city, later inhabited by the Romans. Parts of it have been excavated, and you can walk through them. The real highlight is the museum, which has artifacts discovered there, many of them restored. Two of the artifacts were objects we'd never seen before - bronze tablets with inscriptions in Greek praising a certain citizen. Apparently there are only 3 or 4 of these in existence, as the usual practice of later generazions was to melt down and recycle the bronze. The woman working there took us around the museum and explained everything in detail (in Italian, but there are brochures in English and some of the signs are also in English). If you're in Cefalù and want to get away from that scene, it's less than an hour drive along the coast and through the mountains. The scenery is stunning on the drive there.
