Lorenzo Marolo gave us a fascinating tour of this top-rated distilleria. He is knowledgeable, patient and very personable. We were very happy to have the chance to buy several bottles of excellent grappas not available in the U.S. This was a a unique experience and a real highlight of our visit to Piemonte

Marolo is since several years my favourite grappa. We visited the Marolo distillery and we received a very good explanation from Lorenzo. After the visit Lorezo teached us (and our women) how you have to taste and drink grappa he right way. Whe all liked it very much, even the people who are not used to drink grappa.

Marolo specializes in small batch, high quality grappa production. A run typically renders about 25 liters of full strength grappa. Contrast this with continuous run distilleries which produce several hundred liters per hour. We have visited other producers and Marolo’s emphasis on quality is second to none. You can drop in for a tasting and to purchase grappa, but if you would like a tour, it is best to make a reservation online a week or so in advance.

Our group of 4 went on the tour and tasting and were very impressed with the complexity and subtlety required for producing grappa. When grapes are picked to make wine, ultimately nothing is wasted, and grappa is a byproduct which creates its' own byproduct. Various grapes create varied grappa. The tour guide (son of the owner - Lorenzo) and Luca were excellent.

It is possible to take a tour of the distillery. The staff is always friendly, knowledgeable and take the time to let you try the grappa. We return here every summer for the purchase of some new grappa. We can certainly recommend a visit here, especially for grappa lovers. It is not necessary to book in advance but it is recommended.
