With a history going back to Roman times, the heart of Albenga is a great place for a stroll, a meal, a church and/or museum visit and a chance to admire the ancient architecture. There is plenty of everyday life here. The jury is out on how safe a place it is in the evening. The locals don't want to... More

Our time here was very short but what a delight it is, with its narrow streets and squares - full of charm and character, Drawn to the imposing tower of The Cathedral of San Michele, we went in to view the large painted ceiling, Well worth the time. Wish we could have spent a lot longer here. Delightful.

So the river moved and we don't have totally sandy beaches, but for the visitor this is nothing but positive. An intact medieval town center (including towers) provides an intriguing core, while the river bed provides a home for wild boar, and there is a Roman road (not straight) up to the next town, Alassio. An unpretentious and welcoming place,... More

Step back to the Middle Ages, when Albenga vied with San Gimignano for the title of city with the highest number of towers. Within the well preserved walls are still a good number of those tall constructions, that marked the pride of the local leading families. There are very beautiful and interesting palaces dating from very early days. One of... More

We visited on Saturday evening and Sunday morning so unfortunately lots of places were closed when we got to them but a stroll through the narrow streets with their old buildings was worth the visit. The centre was beautifully decorated as we coincided with the flower festival.

Stopped off in Albenga for the afternoon on our trip around the Ligurian Coast! So glad we did! Old roman ruins and little alley ways full of restaurants and bars with a wonderful authentic Italian atmosphere! Quite a sleepy town but this all adds to its charm! Would definitely return and stay for a few days!

It was amazing. recommend to do it. This tower located in the heart of the little Albenga. You also will find small restaurants around.

Far less touristy than expected, most people there seemed to be locals or perhaps domestic tourists. No or little traffic in a town situated on a plain makes this place nice for children and elderly alike. Interesting roman and medival town, particularly the odd towers with apparently no function except to impress. Nice atmosphere.
