Maybe it's me...

I know I'm giving this piazza a lower rating than most of the other reviews in English. I just don't find anything particularly charming, or interesting about this place. My opinion changes slightly when there's a local market going on but that's usually only on the weekend and, once you've seen that you've seen it. It is truly a local market and is great for seeing what kind of stuff might be of interest to the locals but it's not one you'll be shopping in as a tourist. If you go to the cathedral, which you should, you'll be at one of the piazza and can decide how much time you'll spend there. Depending on which end of the piazza you enter from, when you leave go out the other end. You won't get lost and you'll get to see more of the town.

This square normally plays second fiddle to "Piazza del Popolo", but is equally worth it. Large and open, great for some group photos. Also many food merchants around and this is where the tours normally meet. You can park nearby

Great open space with a lovely fountain
May 2019 • Couples
This large, open Piazza owes its name to the “arringhe” (speeches) which took place here during public assemblies. During ancient times, there was a large elm tree in the center of the square, which has now been replaced by lovely tins travertine stone fountains with sea horses, fish and gargoyles in bronze sculptures by Giorgio Paci. The Piazza houses the Duomo, the Baptistry, the City Hall and the Palazzo Panichi.

History in a square
Jun 2018 • Family
After Piazza del Popolo, this is the nicest square in town, featuring the Arringo Palace, the cathedral and the Baptister.
It is a wide lively square with nice bars where people relax after a stroll in the old city. Watch it at night as well, where the lights give a magical atmosphere

Imposing Piazza
Jun 2018 • Couples
We visited this piazza on a hot summer’s day. It was not busy so the piazza was more viewable. A few people were using the attractive fountains to cool themselves off.

Ok but not the main square
Jul 2017
This piazza is not so beautiful as Piazza de popolo but if you are walking around in the city center you will probably see this as well. Surrounded with old buildings and the Cattedrale di Sant'Emidio is located here.

Beautiful square with a goods market on Saturday morning
Jul 2017 • Couples
This is a lively place at any time. If you're looking for some very cheap clothing or shoes, the piazza is full of stalls on Saturday morning. At other times it's good for people-watching or just sitting in a cafe.

Not the main square
Apr 2017 • Couples
Okay, not the main square in the town but a great place to simply watch the world go by. The sea horse fountains are a photo opportunity. The square is also home to the Duomo and several cafes one a gelateria also.

amazing square

a very beautiful square (my number 2 in Ascoli). I love the horses fountains (it's drinking water!!!) and the nice bars along the side. Stop at the corner for a bag of Olive Ascolane, the stuffed and fried olives, delicious!

Beautiful piazza with good cafés
Sep 2016 • Family
Like the other piazza del populo which you will be sure to visit when walking through the city streets, this piazza offers an amazing view of old buildings in good shape, local art and nice caffés and pizzerias. We sat down here having a fine Italian coffee and enjoying the market. The cathedral is situated on this square, which is a must see too.
