Santa Sofia is a UNESCO world heritage site, a part “Longobards in Italy, Places of Power 568-774 AD”. In our last trip to northern Italy we saw several of this group. Santa Sofia was built in 760 in an unusual hexagonal star shaped interior. The...More
My tour stopped here. I had no idea what the local tour was about. The main focus of our tour was the chur h. It was a small but very interesting piece of architecture. Our guide did a great job explaining the history of not...More
A unique church that preserves aspects of its ancient Lombard birth. It is a shame that so little of the Lombard frescoes have survived, because the fragments that do exhibit excellent artistic quality. They are both moving, and incredibly rare. The carvings over the door...More
This church is small and absolutely delightful. There is a strong feeling of community use and caring here. A church in the round and unlike any other sectors old church I have visited.

My wife and I got married there, so you can imagine I could be bias. It's just a great experience since the first moment you step in. Try and visit it, then you'll tell me :-)
Was not open when we walked by. The town appears to close down in the middle of the day but not for the normal European lunch break but for the bulk of the day.
If you are in Benevento or in its proximity you must make a stop to see this unique church. Italy is full of churches and cathedrals and basilicas but this small, simple church holds a true and fascinating charm and it is different from most.
If you like to visit old churches and compare various designs then you should visit this one. It has an interesting design which reflects a deviation from other earlier churches. If you in town, it is worth a look.
