Guado al Melo lies in the heart of the appellation Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. The winery is run by Michele Scienza and his family, vintners for generations. Michele's father, Attilio, teaches viticulture at the University of Milan and has brought his large library to Guado al Melo, where it has been placed at the centre of an interesting tour among history and culture, through the vineyards and the underground winery. The vineyards cover about 30 hectares (75acres). The terroir is well-suited to produce complex and elegant wines, thanks to the alluvial soil rich of stones and the Mediterranean climate, refreshed by an important temperature range during summertime.

We produce sustainable wine (certified). The grape growing is run with special attention to healthiness and environment. Winemaking is done in a traditional way, without additives or corrections, which may alter the natural features of the grapes.

Tried 5 wines. All were very nice, and far better value than many vineyards in Bolgheri. We purchased a couple of cases so the tasting fee was waived, which is good and not always done!

Pretty good wine tasting. Wines are good, but not excellent. But prices fit. Worth to visit. And it is free.

Thank you very much of its review and the positive view on the relationship quality / price. I'm sorry that the wines you have not hit much (but the taste is very personal). Great wines for someone may not be the same for others. Perhaps you were expecting very powerful wines? Our terroir leads us to make them more subtle... More

We dropped into Guado al Melo by chance whilst on a bike ride. It is a underground wine making bunker! There re tours of the vineyard twice a day on weekdays from 10am and at 4pm and they last 1.5 hours followed by wine tasting. We have never done wine tasting before, but Gabriella was brilliant and helpful. I really... More
