If you find the beach too boring every day, you can try the Redentore above Formia / Gaeta. At 1252m altitude directly in prima collina to the sea, the view from up there (and all along the way) is of course spectacular.
You can drive to the rifugio pornito by car and park there (quite winding mountain road, further up there may be cattle on the road).
From there it is another ~550m and 3.8km on foot to the summit. The path is moderately steep and, however, in the sun from around 10:00 a.m. in August. The path is wide and technically unproblematic. It is hard to understand why a continuous wooden railing was installed, which is rotten in places and is now just for decoration.
You pass a rock chapel worth seeing and may come across grazing animals (cattle, horses, donkeys).
As the tour is popular, there is already traffic with other hikers or mountain bikers on the descent.
At the end you can reward yourself with a stop at the Rifugio Pornito, although its opening hours seem to differ from those announced on the internet.

Incredible how from o m. s.l.m. you can climb in a short time to more than 870 meters s.l.m. and enjoy a breathtaking view. Up there is the refuge that can refresh you with traditional dishes and delicious

Looking up from Formia you can see the top of this mountain that is shaped like a church dome. Even from the valley you can see the statue of Christ, placed there in the year 1900 to commemorate the coming of the new century, on top of the mountain. The place is accessible by car going up the Maranola road and climbing up to 1300 meters to an open area where one can park the car. Here you will also find BBQ pits and tables for picnics. the main attraction, however, is still about a mile away following a winding trail that leads to the Redentore peak. The view from this place is unbelievable, you can see as far as Pozzuoli (near Naples) and you can see all of the Pontine Islands as well as Ischia and Capri. Following another trail that is easily visible and well marked you can reach a grotto that was turned into a chapel where the locals venerate Saint Michael the Archangel. On the day of our excursion, we left Formia which was dealing with oppressive heat, but at the Redentore there was a fresh breeze and a very agreeable temperature. If you do decide to make the trek, allow a full day and bring food for a picnic. Also make sure that the breaks on your car are working properly; the ascend may not be a problem but the descent is very steep and breaks easily overheat and fail.

Great view, but positon on the map is incorrect- it is ca. 10 km from Formia and you need to be prepared to drive some 5 km almost off road and then walk 30 min in the mountains but the view deserves the effort...

From formia, it Takes a little less than 50 minutes to get to the start of the trails by car.
The views are nice and it is a day tour worth a visit if your plan is to escape from the heat and the crowded beach.
The summit is 800m, much cooler than on the coast.

This was more than just an experience. It was truly amazing. It is a 6 mile hike to the summit, (3up/3down). Give yourself at least 3 hours at a minimum. I have attached photos of the map and parking location. It was difficult to find where to park because it is not clearly marked. We just kept driving up the switchbacks. This is not a hike for young children. It does get steep at times and there is loose gravel and large softball sized gravel at times. We even met a cow halfway up, who waited at a switchback for us to pass.
This was an amazing time with our family. The view from the top is worth the hike. We brought water and snacks, made it pleasant.

We were so fortunate to experience the Redentore Trail or Path of the Redeemer, locally known also as “Path of the Statue” to the Hermitage of San Michele Arcangelo. Whilst you may not be joined by 300 people on your walk you should still consider it as a once in a lifetime opportunity. On the way back stop at the restaurant at the base of the walk - stunning views and local food. l could keep writing but why don't you stop reading

My wife and I celebrated her birthday by renting a car and driving from Fondi to the town of Maranola to hike up to Il Redentore. From Maranola, it was another 20 minutes on a narrow road to the Rifugio Pornito, where there is a small parking lot. The trail, which begins at the parking lot, is well constructed. As others have mentioned, there are sections of large gravel or stone that can be a bit tricky, but there is often a handrail. The climb is steadily up, 1400 feet in all, becoming switchbacks after a while. Besides the statue of Christ at the top, there is a small cross near the beginning, then a statue of a Madonna, then St. Michael’s chapel. In between, there are wonderful vistas, grand geological formations, and when we were there, a great bloom of wildflowers. We were in and out of fog/cloud the entire hike, so we didn’t have the broad vista of the coastline that others mention. But the hike was perhaps even more magical as a result.
The hike up took us two hours, including stops for flowers and other sites, not to mention to catch our breath. The return was about half an hour quicker.
We did stop at the cantina at the refugio for a glass of wine, but they seem to have stopped serving food for the day. Next time, I would pack a lunch.

If you are in the area, don'miss this wonderful hiking trail! Just follow the signs Redentore and than park at Refugio Pornito, and from there keep on walking all the way up! The way has hand rails, and it is not difficult to climb up there, just have good shoes for hiking! Take something to drink with you, the only bar on the way is at a very beggining of the way and was closed anyway! On the way on top don't miss the St. Michael church, build in the mountain side in the year 830 a.d., it was closed, too, but outside is impressive and inside you cal look through the hole in the door☺

Found the place thanks to the trip advisor reviews. You have to trust your car a little to make it to the bbq place through a steep dirt road. Once you are there, you walk for about 30 min to the summit where you have a gorgeous view over the area!

Ciao!

Grazie , ciao!

È possibile e ragionevole arrivare a piedi?

Io ci abito qui e ci vado spesso... buona passeggiata
