Nice walk
Jul 2019
If you are at the bottom at the main entrance of Montepulciano you will cross an arch and enter the historic center walking this main street up to the main square. Along the street you will find a lot of commercial activity with good quality food and artisan things but you shouldn't let distract yourself too much and admire also the historic buildings. The street is always busy but not too much so. It's quieter than Florence or Siena and that's what I liked mostly about it.

Pleasant stroll to the Piazza Grande
Oct 2019
One of the most pleasant things to do in the whole of Tuscany is to park at the bottom of this lovely hill-town's historic centre at the Porta al Prato and stroll up the roughly one kilometer to the Piazza Grande at the top for lunch or coffee. It's a reasonably gently incline so most people should manage it and you can always drop your pace for a look at the shops and wine stores. We thought the quality of the stores had improved somewhat since the last time we visited and there were some quality goods on display. There always seem to be enough people on this street for it to be buzzy, but without the frenetic, tour-group driven bedlam of Florence or Siena. And the tourists seem to be calmer, happier, and less pressured. Definitely a lovely way to spend half a day.

Amazing Architecture, Shops, and Restaurants
Aug 2019
Great walk in the heart of city, so much to see. Lots of shops, gelato, restaurants, and photo opportunities. We wish we could have stayed here longer to explore. Great place to people watch. Charming!

Good cardiac workout

Yes, it is a long steep walk from the bottom to the top of Montepulciano's main drag, the Corso. However, if you stop to do some wine tasting, have a gelato and look in some of the very good shops then it can be made a pleasure.

Steep uphill walk on this main street to get to the top of the town but it is well worth the effort.
Oct 2018 • Friends
It is approximately a 900 metre walk to get from the Porta al Prato, the bottom entrance to Montelpuciano, to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta which stands in the Piazza Grande at the top of the town. The mainly pedestrian road (there are some local buses that use it) winds steadily uphill through the centre of Montelpuciano with some quite steep sections but in between these there are also a couple of reasonably flat sections. Along its course are a large number of shops, many selling a range of unique and interesting artisan goods including copper work, ceramic tile art, paintings on glass, ceramics, textiles, leather goods etc. There are also a number of wine stores with free tastings, a few delicatessens, cafes, restaurants, gelateria and churches. Unfortunately there is also a number of shops selling cheap souvenirs and other junk. If walking straight to the top it would only take about 10-15 minutes. Unfortunately it usually takes us about an hour.

Following this street is the best way to discover Montepulciano . It is filled with old buildings , shops wine-bars , restaurants , groceries ... The problem is that Montepulciano is built on a hill and getting to the top could be hard and tiring for many . We found a solution : getting to the top with the Montepulciano City tour minibus and coming down walking . The tour bus has a stop at the tourist office where thereis also a parking lot i

The main street through the historic old city center.
Sep 2018 • Couples
Via di Gracciano nel Corso is the main street through the historic old city center, which has a lower part and an upper part. We bought a ticket for the hop on hop off train and rode around the entire city, then back to the top, and we walked back down to the lower part at our own pace, stopping where when we wanted to see something.

Most memory town on this visit.

I really loved Montepulciano. Even though it was raining and foggy, meandering up the ancient streets lined with shops and restaurants was pretty magical. We ate and drank well and shopped as well. Most of the stores were open even though it was off season. This was a nice surprise.

A feast for all senses
Sep 2018 • Friends
The main shopping street in the city, lined with shops, bars and restaurants is the real challenge for all the senses. The perfect place to enjoy the colorful Tuscany street, taste and smell the typical Tuscany dishes and try some of the best Italian vines. Go with the crowd and enjoy!

Montepulciano main street☺
Sep 2017 • Friends
After visiting Tempio di San Biagio outside the city walls, our tour group was unleashed on this quaint medieval hilltop village. Those with ambulation issues may want to reconsider. Some portions of the “streets” are steps. Many things stimulate the senses: food, cheese, wine… Did I mention wine? And wine?☺ As with any touristy town, shops are horrendously overpriced, but it costs nothing to browse. The Duomo (cathedral) is small, but magnificent. Let your feet take you where they want to go. Instead of bouncing from side to side, I recommend taking in all the sites on one side of the street as there’s only one way back to the main plaza and city gate.
