This Duomo is originating from medieval times. It's very spacious but also sober inside which is also due to the fact that during the war there was a fierce german resistence against the allied forces and thereby much of the buildings and arts were destroyed and this happened also to the duomo.…

I went in this cathedral while visiting Montepulciano during a private tour. The cathedral was not finished on the outside and is just bricks. The inside is rather plain, especially compared to so many other cathedrals in Italy. A quick visit is probably sufficient.

Funds must have run out to finish this building but no expense spared inside! Really lovely pieces of different eras. Don’t miss the ceramic one with the lovely blue and green glazes.

Montepulciano's duomo makes an interesting backdrop to Piazza Grande with its rough and unfinished-looking stonework. While there's a lovely triptych inside it's not the most interesting or impressive church you'll ever see (although look out for St Thaddeus in the triptych - it's actually a self-portrait by the artist Taddeo di Bartolo!). But if you're sitting in the Piazza for coffee or lunch admiring the fortress-like Duomo then it would be very rude not to go in for a quick look before departing.…
