This year everything has changed, the lagoon is truly beautiful and provides a wonderful backdrop to the town. Bad smells and midges are gone, perhaps a little is enough to get excellent results. There has also been regulation for clubs and at midnight the music ends and above all it is never at an intolerable level.
Overall, everything was positive and it was a pleasure to review what I wrote last year

We stayed in Orbetello last week and used the car park on the lagoon side. This a pretty and unspoiled historic area of Italy. The views are lovely, the water was still, and we were able to see across to the far side. No flamingoes at this time of year, but we watched egrets daintily picking their way across the weed growing on the water, and also observed the many herons standings motionless, hoping for a good feed. There were lots of sizeable fish, mullet maybe, leaping out of the water, and shoals of fry making ripples across the surface. Despite the whiffs of sulphur from the lagoon, and the slight nuisance of mosquitoes, it is a compelling place, much reminiscent of the Camargue in southern France.

Municipality that can't wait to fine with speed cameras, they make money for the COMPANION gentlemen who frequent their radical chic beaches. And I, a poor worker, have to pay them, through my fault, the fine with speed cameras to keep the accounts of this municipality devoted to hospitality in order.
But whose welcome? Of the fake.

This lagoon has a serious environmental problem. After a long heat period, the water level in the lagoon drops, fish and algae die. An unbearable stench of rot (rotten eggs and vomit) spreads throughout the town. Don't open a window, it's impossible to eat outside. We left after 4 days. Impossible to breathe.

The Orbetello Lagoon is fascinating, too bad the locals never really understood its potential. You can only walk around it (Orbetello) in a sea of parked cars. It would be so nice to have little sail boats (no pollution) take you around and see Orbetello from the water.....

Great for a bike ride or a walk in the silence of the lagoon where you can see birds and fishes approaching the shore

We have visited this area for fifteen years now and keep discovering beatiful spots. Rent a bike, you can start in Orbetello and cycle around the laguna, on cycling paths, with some minor exceptions, towards the Feniglia and back.

Lovely lagoon with still water and pleasant views across the bay to island connected by car bridge. A peaceful area on the edge of town

Ciao Sara,
Luca

We will be visiting Manciano next week and were hoping to visit the Laguna to see the Pink Flamingoes. Is it too early in the year, or do they have resident Pink Flamingoes? What is the best location to see them?
Thank you so much!
