Orvieta's magnificent Duomo (cathedral) is considered one of the must-see churches in Italy for its stunning gold-and-mosaic Gothic façade and magnificent frescoes by Luca Signorelli, which had a great influence on Michelangelo's work in the Sistine Chapel.

Visiting the duomo really completes your visit to Orvieto. There is a entrance fee of 4€, but don't let that stop you. The two chapels inside the duomo are fantastic. Nice paintings and frescos.

This cathedral is very impressive not only for its huge size and intricate design but also the layering of coloured blocks from top to bottom and the number, size and quality of paintings on walls and roof/ceiling. The scenes portrayed did leave me with an...More

The Duomo in Orvieto is very impressive and is certainly not less than Siena or Florence Duomo. It is smaller though. We visited in the afternoon and we could just walk in. Try that in Florence or Siena.

Magnificent cathedral dominates the central square of Orvieto. Mos interesting details, rose window, three large bronze doors. In the shade of the cathedral there is a little ice cream shop with the best pink grapefruit ice cream ever.
