The church dedicated to Saint Bartholomew the Apostle and named after the marsh area (“pantano”) that surrounded the building, is another gem of the city. It was founded in the 8th century and restored in the 12th century by Abbot Buono in the characteristically Romanesque style, with arches supported by the columns and marble decorations made in two different colors (usually white and dark green). The latest renovation aimed to bring the interior of the building in its original appearance, after many modifications made over the years, which also brought to light many forgotten frescoes.…

Interesting facade in the typical white-and-gray marble design. The church was built in the 12th century.

This church is not to be missed even though it is a bit out of center. A perfect facade, an interesting portico, a very beautiful pulpit. Do not miss it.

Sono stata in questa chiesa per caso durante una passeggiata in solitaria. Bellissima, la fondazione risale al 700 dopo Cristo, ma la struttura romanica come la vediamo oggi è del 1100. Estremamente semplice, la luce entra all'interno dalla finestra frontale e attraversa la navata centrale, raggiungendo l'altare. Se non c'è nessuno specialmente, l'atmosfera è di profonda pace e sacralità anche per chi, come me, non è credente. I've been in this church by chance during a walk on my own. Very beautiful, it was founded in CE 700, but the Romanic structure is from CE 1100. It's extremely simple and plain. The light enters into it by the frontal window and then crosses the central aisle and reaches the altar. Especially if there's nobody else inside, the atmosphere is deeply peaceful and sacred even for those who are not believers (just like me).…

If you are in Pistoia and go to the Duomo it is only a few minutes walk to this church and worth seeing. It is really old and huge inside and worth seeing some very old frescoes.....
