We spent a week in Cinque Terre, which is a lovely destination. But the hype make the villages very crowded during daytime with a lot of day trippers. So we took one day a day trip to Portovenere. This place is as special as the...More

This little shop, located on one of Portovenere's cobbled famous streets is a complete treasure trove of the finest Italian produce. Food and wine sourced locally and beyond by Olivia and Piero, the most wonderful and friendly couple, who shared their expert knowledge with us....More

Although officially not part of the Cinque Terre towns, Portovenere is really beautiful and you can start your day here taking the ferry. This is really a nice port-town well worth a visit!

Wonderful quick trip from La Spezia to the old Genoese fortress village. Not a huge tourist destination as most of the folks in town were Italian enjoying a day trip. Worth a detour.

An absolutely charming little town. Full of character and local life without the hordes of tourists in the cinque terre. Unfortunately the CT seems to have become a beautiful facade with not much real substance sitting behind it and a victim of total overcrowding. For...More

On a recent visit to Nice, which we had never visited before, we were advised by an Uber driver to try this Italian restaurant close to our accomodation - Portovenere. It provided for us a range of pasta types and sauces which we enjoyed so...More

Hi Kitty, we were there in late March and unfortunately a week early before the "season" opened. We researched up and down the port of La Spezia and found that in season there are not only the ferries that take you up and... More

Debby Not as far as I know. You could hike to riomaggio but that would be a loooong way. Would say portovenere is a side trip, different from cinque terre.

What would be the best option to get to and from La Spezia centrale train station to Porto Venere? If bus, how frequent, how long trip and what cost? How frequent is ferry service to Cinque Terre towns?
