Our tour guide knows the person who builds this mini-city. It is expensive and I guess from the sign in Italian the creator is not getting much support from the municipality. Not really beautiful but creative and worth a quick look.

Just down the road from our hotel and the location for the Positano Internal bus stop, however, grotto does not merit a special trip!

The tour guide asked the driver to slow down so that we could photograph this little display. The guide said that this grotto used to be very well maintained by a local lady who has passed away. Fortunately, near Christmas, townspeople volunteer to clean and fix up the small buildings. A beautiful nativity scene is constructed annually during the holidays.

Tucked away on the roadside, and erected in a mountain niche which caught me off guard. Who thought of this little gem of an idea? I then spotted the sign and donation box, the site was created by artist Castellano Michele and is known locally as a presepe. There are a few local landmarks among this creation that you may... Our guide tells us that this is a village scene from 1900. The buildings all look like they were individually hand-crafted; there is an amazing amount of detail in each separate structure. But all the pieces are there: churches (of course), miniaturized bushes that look like trees, sculpted rock to mimic terraces (or cemeteries?), even little railings along the very... More

You will see this grotta as you drive down into Positano, as well as others as you drive between the small towns along Amalfi. Very charming!

Pretty little grotto built into the cliff face . It is also a bus stop so its easy to miss if there is a queue of people stood in front of it

The grotto is carved into the rock along the road leading to the main part of Positano. When taking the bus through Positano it is located on the final leg of the bus route heading into town not far from Fornillo restaurant on a sharp curve. I was told that during the Christmas holiday it is decorated like a nativity... More

This Grotto is about a third of the way down to the town from the main road. It is on a tight left hand bend and appears to be built into the cliff wall. There are numerous figurines and other carvings and it is similar to another one or two sites like this that we saw on this coastline. It... More
