Outstanding!
Jul 2019
This is one of the best diocesan museums in Italy. Extremely well laid out, showcasing some outstanding works of religious art. The staff are extremely polite and helpful. Visitors to the duomo must purchase a ticket for the museum in order to walk behind the high altar. This is perfectly reasonable, though it is not terribly clear that this is the practice at the duomo and museum. A poster or sign in translation explaining that would be helpful. On the other hand, my wife and I were very impressed by the lady who directed us from the duomo to the museum. Her enthusiasm for the duomo, and especially for Our Lady’s girdle which is displayed in the museum, were infectious.

Stunning Donatello pulpit
Mar 2019 • Friends
Wonderful little museum, full of the most amazing religious artefacts, of which by far the best are the decorative carved stone panels from the next door Duomo’s external pulpit, created by Donatello in the 15th century. These were replaced on the pulpit by 20th century copies and put in the museum to prevent any further damage by pollution. To be able to get up so close to these exquisite carvings is a fine arts lover’s dream. If you are in the Emilia Romagna region, you should come to Prato just to these. They are extraordinary.

Excellent cathedral museum
Dec 2018 • Couples
Being the only people in this museum we were assigned a “watcher” who spoke only Italian and kept wanting to steer us to art that was not of interest to us ie. 17th century. But the early art in the museum is wonderful! There are frescoes under the arches, a nice one of St. Anthony and his devil-pig in a window alcove, a Filippo Lippi, a slyly grinning Madonna and Child with a bird, a lovely Annunciation, and the original Donatello outdoor pulpit. I suggest a stop here.

The museum was nice and it came along with the main ticket so it was a good addition. The sculptures were beautiful.

Mainly about the building of the duomo, its architects, plus a smattering of religious artwork of arguable significance. Good value for those with historical inclination as the ticket offers 6x locations.

Wonderful Museum when combined with a visit to the Duomo
Dec 2016 • Couples
The Duomo and Museum are part of a combined ticket. You get access to the chapels behind the main altar in the Duomo and the museum which is adjacent and under the cathedral. The museum has many pre-renaissance pieces and well as the original Donatello Pulpit. Some recent acquisitions are also on display. It is good to see the history of Prato in it's art.

Being under the Duomo in it's arch vaulted rooms is wonderful. Very enjoyable.

Outstanding remodeling, videos, and statues!
Dec 2015
This museum was recently remodeled with world class care to illustrate an excellent collection in a life sized remake of the original setting. The museum includes a remake of the medieval facade of the Duomo (just outside of the Museum) with the original statues placed in their original niches within the remake. Videos explain in beautiful detail and depth the history of the architecture of the Duomo and its cultural impact over the centuries. The videos last a few minutes in both English and Italian.

Unbelievable transformation bravoissimo

I have visited this museum many times over thirty years. It was quiet. Musty. No English and barely advertised. Now it is a modern three floor space with so much to see and fine explanations. Very impressive and professionally presented. Can combine with the cathedral and bapistry.
