This church is so beautiful and so unique. On one side it features an exterior pulpit with top that is shaped like an ornate umbrella. I've never seen a a pulpit like this and it's so lovely. We were there on a rainy day so my photos didn't come out well, but if you look at other traveler's pictures you'll... More

One had never thought of visiting this city not far from Florence; it seemed to be noted more as a commercial centre for wool and other trades than for art or for religious purposes. But a story about its Duomo unearthed from a history of Florence had us intrigued and so we embarked on a day’s excursion to this rather... More

I often visit Prato as an invited lecturer at the Monash University (Melbourne, Australia) satellite campus in Prato, and I never miss visiting the Cathedral. It has stunning frescoes by a number of famous Renaissance artists, but I would especially point out the ones by Filippo Lippi in the main chapel illustrating the lives of St. Stephen (to whom the... Located in small town of Prato, Italy. This Church has the construction with alternating green and white tiles. Beautiful artwork inside the Church. Once a year the Chasity Belt of the Virgin Mary is shown on the balcony. I did not see this.

We visited late one afternoon so didn't have long before the church closed for mass at 5pm. The side chapel has amazing frescos though these are hard to see because of the protective grills. The most amazing fresco's are those behind the main altar - make sure you dont miss these. Salome and the scenes from the life of John... More

Just stepping in the the quiet reverence of this small Duomo that pops up out of the piazza like so many others in Tuscany, brings a feeling of calm reflection, peace and tranquility. It is a living and working church open to the public and the priest was taking reconciliation and unlike many other churches we were allowed to sit in...
