This magnificent building is situated centrally down a small road. The piazza is interesting too. Many great frescos inside. Spoletto is a nice city to visit with its old Roman Theater. A pageant took place on our visit, many locals dressed in period costumes. We were lucky.

We came to Spoleto most of all to see the frescoes of Fra Filippo Lippi on the ceiling of the apse of the Duomo. They were painted in 1469 and they were his last works. He died while working on this commission. There is a mystery surrounding his death; possibly he was poisoned. The work was completed by a fellow... More

You can see the Duomo from the road, a large staircase goes from the road to the Duomo's square. Inside has a lot of paintings and the entrance is free.

There's a great vista when you look down the steps to look at the west façade. Now when you go in make sure you go to the chapels on the right. You'll need a 50cent piece to operate the light machine (also for a chapel with frescos on the left aisle) and you'll see some very good frescos. Working your... More

Such a beautiful and we'll situated Duomo. The affreschi are delightful, the letter from San Francesco is charming and to see this cathedral illuminated at night from outside is a special experience. The Open Art gallery of local artist Impero Panella just down the road is wonderful also.

The Duomo also known as Cattedrale of Santa Maria Assunta is the symbol of Spoleto and the original construction dates back to the XII Century. There is an impressive staircase leading to the Duomo from via Saffi. The best time of the day to take pictures of the facade is at sunset. The interior is very rich with several important... More

Amazing attraction. One of the most beautiful in umbria. Combined with the piazza is one of the most attractive places in this region.

One of the most beautiful in Umbria. Located half way up the hill and framed by the old city. Spoleto is a magical place.
