Amazing Roman arch which looks rather out of place as nothing else Roman seems to be there. Still interesting to walk underneath and let the imagination of past centuries flow by.

The Arco dates to 23 AD and is an amazing example of Roman engineering. Right around the corner is the church of S. Ansone. Enter the church and to the left of the alter is the entrance to the cript of S. Lucco. The cript and church were built on top of a Roman temple that the arch, a tribute... More

Not much to see after you've seen it. Except, it is next door to the Tempio Del Gusto restaurant and the Piazza del Mercato.

Actually, I saw this many times during my time in Spoleto and only realised it was an attraction about two minutes ago. There are some nice restaurants nearby when you finish looking at the arch...

The Arco di Druso is situated at the entrance to the forum (now the piazza mercato). It has been partially incorporated into the more recent shops on one side of the road. On the other it is very close to the Roman temple which is now under the church (parts of which can be seen from the church's crypt. The... More

'Arco di Druso e Germanico' is an ancient Roman arch which was built in 23 AD, it is located on Via Arco di Druso between Piazza Mercato and Piazza Pietro Fontana. The arch was built by the Senate to honour the death of Emperor Tiberius's son Drusus and his adopted son Germanicus. This ancient single arch, built from large blocks... More

The tourist people don't seem to make much of this (maybe they just can't think of a way), but Spoleto has nothing that evokes its antiquity as powerfully as this. One might think, without knowing better, that it dates back to the days of the Republic, or even be Etruscan.

The Piazza del Mercato in Spoleto has a great vibe. It is a hub of nightlife in the evening and is a nice relaxing place to relax during the rest of the day.

The Arco di Druso was once the grand entrance to the Roman forum that stood where the present-day Piazza del Mercato sits. A great thing to admire is you're a history buff or visitor who is eager to learn about Spoleto's history. The arch was built in the 1st century to honor Emperor Tiberius's sons. Next to the arch is... More

Having just finished listening to 'I Claudius', I was in the perfect mood to make discoveries of ancient Roman sites. This one is actually in the 'centro storico' of Spoleto, and part of it is embedded in a church wall. It is really thrilling to walk under something so old.
