My wife and I waked the 2 kilometre track to Sacro Monte stopping to view each chapel on route, what a really interesting way to spend a few hours. A bit hard going up a steep stoney path but highly recommended.

Inside Varese, a few kilometers from the center, it is possible to reach the Sacro Monte just walking. I usually walk with my kids and it is a pleasure as it is very panoramic and during summer a bit refreshing.

Came across Sacro Monte by accident and decided to visit, interesting history and well preserved buildings dating back to the 12th century.

Well - box ticked for this UN Heritage. I was disappointed with limited and not satisfying information, weird signage and an overall unmaintained impression. Beautiful yet overwhelming artwork in the church and an overall very nice setup. Driving up is convenient but if you have...More

I would suggest moving around. Lago Maggiore is within a reasonable distance, Lake Como about 1-1/2 hrs away, and there are a number of Sacro Monte sites in the region as well.
