Not to be overlooked
Sep 2018 • Friends
This little church in Via San Lino is often overlooked by tourists, but it is a hidden gem in a city with no shortage of wonders. The story says that the church was built at the birth place of the second Bishop of Rome (after Peter), Pope Linus, who was born in Volterra in the 1st century. The interior of the simple church is well worth visiting, especially for its beautiful ceiling decorated with frescoes.

walked past this church each time we walked from our hotel to the town. The ceiling was beautiful as was the rest of the church - well worth a visit.

Church that's rich and full of wonderful frescoes of bible scenes

Kept walking past this small church that was open to the p ublic but i never saw anyone going in ...so i decided to go in. This church was built by Raffaello Maffei in the place where Pope Linus, Peter?s first successor, probably lived. The fa?ade is ornamented with a Renaissance portal. The interior, provided with a single nave and vaulted ceiling decorated with frescoes, houses above the high altar a wooden panel depicting the Virgin and Saints by Francesco Curradi; on the side walls are the Virgin?s Nativity by Cesare Dandini. THere is also a big picture of Pope John Paul, who apparently visited this church
