The Achenseebahn is a delight and there are no smelly diesel engines to spoil the trip. This is a steam train experience par excellence, but lovers of tradition and history will like it too. The staff are friendly and happy to help you. This, and...More

Did not quite know what to expect but it was very interesting. Not for those with limited mobility as access not easy. It was a very clunky old railway but well worth the ride. Followed by a cruise along Lake Achensee

Took the train from Archensee to Jenbach. It's quite expensive but if you upgrade your holiday card it's included so then it's fantastic value. The journey mostly goes through woodland so not much to see. Jenbach itself is very disappointing, in fact there is nothing...More

This is an old steam powered track and pinion railroad that hauls the train up some amazing gradients to the lake at Achensee. The views are good even if a fair amount of the train ride goes through forests. I would suggest avoiding sitting the...More

The trip up and back takes a while but is great fun although the up trip was very crowded due to a party booking. As expected the rolling Stock is old and seemed in need of servicing. Never seen a ticket collector work tomorrow the...More

The unmistakable aroma of steam-coal takes passengers back 150 years, to imagine the excitement of travelling on a so-called 'Iron Horse.' Before and after the rack assistance is engaged to surmount the steep gradient, the locomotive is disconnected to switch between pushing and pulling. Photo...More

We were on the train from Innsbruck to Kitzbuhel when we passed Jenbach and saw an engine shed with interesting old steam locomotives and a big sign,"Achenseebahn." Intrigued, we returned the next day for a look and ending up having one of the most interesting...More

Well worth trip up to the lake on a beautifull sunny May day. A trip back in time as the Cog Railway bumps its way to the top.

This trip was organised for my partner's mother who like the Chalet School books, in some of which a trip is taken on this railway. It is extremely easy to get to, the main station being co-located with the OBB station at Jenbach. On boarding,...More
