The visit is free. The villa and gardens are stunning. Many of the rooms are astounding. The villa is opened to visitors once an hour on the half hour.

We spent a delightful 1.5 hours here, almost the only visitors on a beautiful early fall Sunday to this impressive Medici villa. Go figure! There is no guided tour per se of the villa- you wait at the door on the half hour, and a guide lets you in and directs you around the inside from room to room, available to answer questions if you understand Italian. There are explanation cards in most rooms which are helpful, but doing a bit of Internet research is recommended as well. Another reviewer was critical of the hodgepodge of decorating styles shown in the various rooms as being unrepresentative of the original occupants, but I found it interesting and in a real sense a historically accurate depiction of the evolution of a stately home. I'd recommend a day trip here from the hustle and bustle of touristy Florence if you can spare the time.

Decided to divert to visit the villa on the drive back to Pisa airport from Chianti and pleased we did. This once grand villa is looking a bit tired and jaded now but is still a magnificent piece of architecture that is beautifully proportioned. Entry is free but you are escorted around the state rooms which still exude the opulence of the Medici's. That said this was a worthwhile diversion on the way to the airport.

That was the place where Lorenzo The Magnificent and all the Medici family used to come during the holidays (and more). Now is a fantastic and suggestive place to visit! Absolutely recommended.
