Well worth a visit. Even if you don't go to the tower, which we didn't, because I found it very very hard going as an older person, the views from the road are absolutely amazing. Google maps will take you along the road beneath it and there is a view point at Balcon de la Massene next to a deserted barracks where there is a more direct path up to the tower than the first path you come to as you approach from the Argeles Sur mer direction. My husband went so far and said it was almost vertical in places.

We are probably a bit picky, but the way wasn't in a good condition. It was difficult to walk up, because the way was so massive damaged. We felt unsecure and needed to turn in the half cause the weather was not sure dry... the way seems to be the river where the wather would come down.
It's ok, but it could be in a quite better condition.

Well worth the effort to get the outstanding view. The mountain road is perhaps not for the feint-hearted but the views are great all the way and the vineyards cover the slopes.

this is a STUNNING view! but the walk is not easy! me and my boyfriend did not plan this well enough and started at Chateau Valmy after an hour cycle.. bad move! it is really steep and in the heat its hard and I consider myself fairly fit. I think there are other ways that are quicker so plan your route wisely unlike us! bring PLENTY of water and suncream! but well worth it for the views! unmissable and hope to return to do it again!

A solid walk to get up to the tower, through nice valleys covered in woods from the Valmy Chateau. Well worth the effort with a stunning view of the Roussillon valley once you get to the tower.
The Massane tower itself is nothing that special but the spot is gorgeous. Enjoy 😊

The walk involved about 550m in height climb over 4.2km, so it's not for the faint-hearted, but my word the view will take your breath away!! On a good day (like we had) you can see for miles and miles up the coast, out to sea, and out over the mountains. You can also see where you parked the car if you came up from the "La Vall" side.
Overall I would definitely recommend as a good challenge that doesn't involve any serious mountain climbing... just make sure you bring plenty of water!!

It's a good climb to the top, through lots of forest, but well worth the view at the top. The review below has great instructions of how to get there.

First off, how to get there. Basically a previous reviewer saved me on this.... I originally tried using a GPS to get there and was led down a succession of dangerous mountain roads, including some that had signs saying 'dont drive further, you will die!'.... so don't try and do this any other way than specified previously, which i will repeat below.
Use a GPS or a map to get you to Soréde, i used the road A9, came off and followed one road in. Just follow that road through the town and you will start seeing signs for Lavail (not Lavall as previously mentioned). You stay on the main road for a bit and then there is a further sign to Lavail pointing down a road that you can see heads into the valley. Follow this road! All the way to the end! I gets quite bumpy, its single lane with passing points every so often. You will come to a cluster of houses and campsites, you know you are close at that point. Keep going and you will see a sign for parking (500m), keep going! You'll then get to the car park, just park up and you're good to go.
Once you've ditched the car walk through the car park and then along the track that runs parallel to the river (but about 30 feet above it). After a couple of hundred metres you can turn off the path to the left, there is a big red arrow painted on some wood and the word 'Massane' just to make it clearer.
Going up the path is pretty tough going, its not very clear at all and the yellow blobs on rocks are few and far between. Someone does appear to have put piles of rocks at regular ish points though and so if you're not sure what to do, have a hunt around for one of these. Am not sure if they are official, or even if thats what they are for but they seemed to help me. Worst case, just follow the best used path, essentially you are walking up a rocky path that i guess used to be a river bed at some point. Its not too clear but if in doubt just keep heading up. Running the length of the ridge at the top is a decent path so as long as you make it up to that ridge you should be fine. Its hard going in summer, i took 1.5 litres of water and it wasnt enough really.
Once you get to the ridge its pretty much plain sailing. Turn right and follow the path and occasional sign, eventually you will start to climb again and be thrust out onto a sort of plain with the tower at the far end. Make you way there and you are done. From the top of the ridge to the tower takes the best part of one hour.
You can relax now and enjoy the unbelievable views. Words can't describe so just go and see for yourself.
Good luck!

Go and enjoy the walk up through the rural area ending with a magnificent view of the town and the coastline as well as the beautiful green mountains. The commune Argelès sur mer has put up a lot of yellow roads signs for pedestrians showing the way and an indication of the distance and the time to go. A map will come in handy in order to recognise the many hills and villages that will appear.

Bonjour.
