These locks were built under Louis XIV, and were a remarkable technical achievement. Getting up and down then with a boat is still quite an achievement - you need to keep your wits about you and pull hard on the ropes!

We passed here while jogging next to the canal. We started in the town, passed the Écluse in town, through the aqueduct, then north to Fonsérannes. A bit tricky to pass to the other side of the canal due to construction work. Beatiful scenery running back to the town! Very interesting site with a massive height difference

Walked from the Cathedral to the Old bridge crossed the river and walked to the canal du Midi. About 30 minutes leisurely walk with time for photographs of the cathedral and town from the river. The walk along the canal to the locks is splendid. Watch for the small lizards bathing in the sun on the stone canal aqueduct over... More

Worth the stop and small walk to see the 9 écluses - unfortunate that it was under renovation whilst we visited...so it was unpractical to walk around From there however, there is an awesome walk to do along the canal all the way to the cathédrale.

Nice place to visit in a warm day - it`s interesting to follow a boat through these ecluses - one of the few landmarks in Beziers

We were advised to visit the Ecluses de Fonserannes whilst in Bezier. The nine lock's of Fonserannes, easily reached by a cycle ride on the Canal Du Midi, A masterpiece of civil engineering, well worth a visit.

It took me about 40 minutes to find this place as Beziers is like a maze. To my disappointment, it was closed for visitors and there was no information anywhere in the town itself to inform it was closed. Shame...

We wanted to go see these locks when we were in Beziers on a day trip. We followed the signs to get there, and arrived on a big unfinished parking lot. And it turns out that the sight is closed for visitors until summer 2017, because of maintenance! So it was impossible to see anything. I get that they need... More
