The Municipal Museum of Vire was inaugurated in 1973 at the old hospital of the city, left open by the departure of the community of Augustinian sisters in 1956. It presents traditional Norman women's clothing, a reconstruction of life in Normandy at the end of the nineteenth century. Two rooms present a collection of fine arts.

We've visited this museum several times and always enjoy it.Whilst it is small it is also full of fun exhibits. The seasonal exhibits are usually well presented.the grounds are always well finished and a pleasure to the senses

We have visited this museum couple of years ago when they had an exhibition about how Vire was rebuilt after the war. It was absolutely excellent. We saw posters and banners advertising the exhibition about dining over the last few centuries, and were very disappointed with the content. We were out within 20mins.

Thoroughly enjoyable visits to this small but well formed local museum. A nice garden outside and park across the river, with local eateries makes this a good trip out for us. Recommended.

This is an excellent local museum which has many things pertinent to the Calvados region such as the beautiful armoires and other local styles furniture. It was a surprise to see that Vire was the birthplace of an artist whose pictures adorn this building.
