Inside the former submarine base in the harbour of Saint-Nazaire, a hidden treasure lies in store for you. Escal'Atlantic, the ocean liner experience, is a unique interactive visit for the whole family. This is an experience which takes you back to the great ships built in Saint Nazaire - real history brought to life with theatre. The vignettes are so well thought through - the best being the promenade deck complete with wind effects! There's also a...More

This is the best museum of ocean liners that I have seen. It combines good histrical coverage and excellent artifacts with an accessible and engaging approach to display. It makes good use of an otherwise unusable historical monument, the wartime concrete pens for Submarines (basically,...More

Wow!! So in the middle of nowhere you will find this gem. A cruise ship within a warehouse disguised as a musuem that hold very big functions. I don't want to spoil the suprises here but if you in the vicinity of his place you...More

Based in the former submarine pens, this looks rather formidable from the outside, but once up the gangway, it opens into an amazing and well thought out history of transatlantic liners. We had not seen anything like it before, and my teenage son was very...More

All of us, from age 9 to 70 agreed this was the highlight of our holiday. In essence, it is a museum about transatlantic ocean liners, but 'museum' conjures up ideas of rooms of exhibits which this is not. There are exhibits from ocean liners...More

This explains the link of ocean going liners with the historic city of St Nazaire. It has some hands on things, the children we saw seemed to enjoy it. It has been cleverly built as though you feel that you are on a liner. We...More

I bought a combination ticket (this site + submarine + ecomusee) here for only 18 euros (student ticket). There were also other types of combination tickets. It took me two hours to finish visiting Escal'Atlantic. This museum shows what the interior of old French ocean...More

Thought this was something about the submarine base but it isn't. It is a historical account of cruise liners. But you end up walking for most of your duration . It isn't particularly cheap either. I wouldn't recommend this to even someone with a passion...More

Dear Martin B, sorry that the visit of Escal'Atlantic was not up to your expectations. It sounds as though there was a misunderstanding at the beginning. Escal'Atlantic is housed inside the submarine base but it's all about ocean liners, and not about the history of...More

For 18 Euros (with discount vouchers from café) we had a visit to the submarine (wonderful) and the museum as well as Escal'Atlantic. It is a wonderful attraction, laid out like a cruise liner, and covers the history of leisure cruising as well as the...More

This is one of those rare exhibits that are done really well. The whole experience would appeal to individuals and to families alike. The displays are nothing short of stunning, but be sure to follow the correct path - this is not always clear. Otherwise...More
