Don't hesitate to go for a ride into the history of that wonderful replica of a French frigate that took part in the American War of Independence. The Hermione is a national treasure that you cannot miss, a beautiful warship unique in the world ! A good two hours are necessary to visit the ship and its museum.

L'Hermione is a replica of a French frigate that took part in the American War of Independence. The Sunday we visited, it was free. This replica has taken 15 or so years to build and recently is back from a voyage to the US. You approach the ship through an excellent display of the various skills and trades required on... More

L'Hermione is a replica of a French frigate that took part in the American War of Independence. You approach the ship through an excellent display of the various skills and trades required on a ship of this type, carpenters, sailmakers, painters etc. The smell of tarred rope is highly evocative. You can take a guided tour but as far as I... More

If you're in Rochefort of tourism then you undoubtedly have an interest in maritime history. This ship is a handsome replica of the original. The team is very passionate about their work, and you can find both French and American staff aboard-- a true testament to the Franco-American history shared with l'hermione. Just to the side are tents with many... More

Since we felt like enjoying the warm sunny day, we wandered around the dock and admired this magnificent worship from the outside. At this stage of the trip we had become sick of paying the eternal entrance fees and the entitled crowds so we left it at that. The shop stocked suitable navally themed attire with price tags suitably inflated... More

Interesting, but the visit left us all somewhat disappointed. The guided visits were all booked, so we had to make do with the "free" visit, which meant that we could only walk on the main deck and the open part of the gun deck below. Incidentally, one of our grandsons pointed out that if two of the guns were to... More

My wife and I arrived at 11:15 to be told that it would not be possible to get on board until 12:00. Decided to go ahead and went through tents with various expositions of the reconstruction of the boat etc. Finally on on board at 12:20 and while it was good, it was not great compared to other boats we... Very interesting self-guided tour (the guided tour was fully booked and seemingly extremely expensive for what it added). It was really interesting to see how they have reconstructed this amazing ship, but the children really only found the ship itself interesting. You can’t stroll through much of it as that is left to those who chose the full tour, but... More

Visted the Hermione boat today with my partner and his daughter. We all felt rather let down by the experience. The expo before seeing the boat was informative but although the boat itself is magnificent to see most of the areas on the boat were roped off so that one could only see the top deck and next deck down...
