For a small town like Bamberg this is a really interesting museum, well worth a couple of hours of your time. It's located in the Alte Hofhaltung, next to the cathedral. There are four permanent exhibitions: - the development of Bamberg and its relationship with the Regnitz river - lots of maps; - 19th century portraits and applied art, supposedly... More

The museum, which is in a restored historical building (including former stables)! has an excellently curated and presented exhibition on "Jewish Bamberg", with photographs, artefacts and much documentation, obviously the result of excellent research. The city of Bamberg and the Director of the Museum are to be congratulated on a magnificent job!

If you have a thing for maps, this museum is for you. Just as you enter there is as room featuring masps and how the river has changed over time. Other parts of the museum include an overhyped picture gallery which is light on Cranach and Pietet Breugel. There are some translations in English, but not many. A down side... More

The museum is spread over several floors and over a Couple of buildings. It is worth the moderate cost. An interesting photography exhibition at the moment and a pleasant way to spend an hour or so

The exterior walls are replete with colorful paintings and pieces of attached sculpture. The setting on a river with a rapid current enhances the effect of the exterior beauty.

We visited Bamberg on our way to Austria. A beautiful historical town., we also visited the museum. It is a very nice museum but they could provide more information in English!

Not recommended if you are tired. It is pretty large collection and to be honest, the collection includes little bit of everything. Plus it has no english description so with my (and my friends') short German, it was quite difficult to decipher the significance of each artifact. The museum itself is in old residence and the building is pretty impressive.... More

Went there on a rather hot day to find it cool and peaceful and an enjoyable experience to wander around seeing the history of Bamberg and looking at paintings without crowds of tourists. Found the staff very friendly with a couple speaking very good English. If you want a bit of peace from the crowds well worth a visit.
