Didn't realize this was such a pilgrimage destination until we started walking around the area after our late night arrival. Lovely area, many religious sites to see. Lots of shops selling souvenirs and religious items, as well as many cafes and restaurants.

This is a typical square of a typical Bavarian town. But it is really well-kept and surrounded beautiful buildings. There are many cafes and restaurants that you can enjoy some drinks or sweets or meals. There is a big grass area on the square.

One of the most beautiful squares I have ever seen in Bavaria. Sit at one of the many biergardens to sip on lovely local Helles whilst watching the pilgrims on the square. Locals in their Trachten, tourists, and the devout make for excellent people watching. A wonderful way to spend an afternoon.

This plate is surrounded by churches and lovely old buildings. It contains the most significant Marian pilgrimage site, tiny church in Germany. Many attractions for believers and tourists but frequented most by Germans. Cheap parking right under the platz.

Whether you are religious or not, this is a great stop. The collection of churches and chapels are distinctive and of course the Bavarian ruler heart chapel is a must. But buy a guide book and take a little tour and you will be fascinated with the details of this place.

City of pilgrimage, also called "the German Lourdes". A lot of churches and chapels on one square, different architectural styles from different eras. Most prominent building is the The Chapel of Grace in Altötting (where the hearts of many Bavarian kings are kept). Other builings are: the two-towered Gothic Stiftspfarrkirche, St. Magdalene Church, Marianische Männerkongregation, Stiftspropstei, Alten Chorherrenstock, Pilgrimage Museum,... More
