Their collection is very rich and diverse, indeed. from Egyptian artefacts to Houdon sculptures and more. Audio-guide is well done.

Nice museum to visit if you are around
Feb 2017
I got the whole ticket for the museum in Gotha, when I wanted to visit the Schloss Friedenstein. The weather was quite nasty when I was there so I did not mind spending few more euros for the entry to the another museum. This museum is quite well maintained and newly renovated than the Schloss Friedenstein. I would say you could skip this one if you visited Schloss Friedenstein and the weather is nice, but if the weather was unfortunate like my case, then this would be a nice place to look around too.

An interesting permanent collection
Aug 2016 • Couples
The museum is housed in a splendid neoclassical 19th Century building that has recently been completely renovated to a high standard. Our main reason for visiting this museum was to view the temporary exhibition of the work of the Dutch artist: Balthaser van der Ast. Nevertheless, the permanent collection is interesting. It includes an eclectic mix of what survives of the collections of the Dukes of Sachsen-Gotha ranging from the antique through renaissance German painting, Asian art and porcelain, later European sculpture and pottery. The collections are of high quality and are well presented.

Well presented exhibits in lovely building
Jul 2014 • Couples
We visited this museum today and were pleasantly surprised at the excellent presentation of a wide variety of collectables of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. A few choice items were displayed in the Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Chinese and Japanese rooms as well as sculptures and paintings upstairs. We thought it was well worth the 5 euro admission and were impressed that nearly all the exhibits had English explanations as well as German. We can also recommend the cafe for a tasty bowl of soup.
