The tour to the abbey by boat is a highlight in itself . The church is a fine example of gothic architecture, but to get the best out of it you really need a guide to a plain the art pieces.

really not. The church was nice. There was no brewery tour and the highlight was a beer tasting with a pretzel. OK but not what I was expecting.

The trip starts with a wonderful river cruise from kelheim to the Weltenburg monastery. You will not be overly impressed with your first sight of the chapel. But wait till you get inside. Two local brothers that trained in Rome are the artist and architect...More

This is an easy and nice day out. A return boat trip from Kelheim to Weltenburg is less than 10 Euros for an adult. The river I sbeautiful and the narration is bi-lingual (Germana nd English). The boat itself is spacious and clean. Waitress service...More

We didn't have too much time to spend on this visit as we had to get back to our ship by a specific time, but we did gaze in breathless wonder at the tiny baroque chapel with its elaborate decor, including an equestrian statue of...More

We called in on a detour on our way from Munich to Regensburg. Not really all that much to see, but the restaurant facilities and beer were good. Nice setting. Seems like most people take a boat ride up through the Danube Gorge and stop...More

Beautiful place by the Danubio River. All the surroundings are greats, very peaceful place. Food on the local restaurant is also greats and affordable. Don't miss the beer, according to their words, they are the oldest monastery in the world brewing beers.

We've been to this monastery plenty of times over the years. We usually park in the monastery car park in Weltenburg which is a lovely 10 minute walk along a flat, tarred road by the river to the monastery. Once there you can enjoy a pint...More

Loved the cruise from Kelheim and back through the Danube gorge, the walk up to the monastery and enjoyable monastery courtyard biergargten. The food was good--I ordered the day's special after wandering over to a nearby table to ask some folks what they were eating....More

First, there is the approach: a cruise through the dramatic gorges of the Danube. Next there's the situation: a large complex of buildings almost at river level (with an inevitable history of floods). Then there's the courtyard, a popular place for lunch or a beer...More

I am not fond of small boats -- how big is the boat that takes you along the Danube Narrows? How many people does the ferry hold? Thanks

The boats are not small, most of their boats take 500-600 people. They appear to have a 150 person boat too, but I've never seen that. Also travelling on the river it is normally a relatively smooth ride.

There are daily tours in German or English that do not need to be booked in advance. The German tour we did was at 1.30pm and we simply showed up 10 mins before and easily got tickets even though the place was very busy. The... More
