Overview
More
Gruyères Castle has stood proudly atop a verdant hill in the heart of Switzerland since the 13th century. Surrounded by the magnificent panorama of the Alpine foothills, the medieval fortress houses prestigious collections that bear witness to its long and rich history. The treasures to be found within its walls include the capes of the Order of the Golden Fleece and the intricate stained-glass windows dating from the Middle Ages; the frescoes commissioned by the bailiffs under the Ancien Régime; paintings by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot and the troubadour decorations of the Salle des Chevaliers, created at Gruyères in the 19th century by a colony of passionate artists. From its ramparts to its French-style gardens, from the guard room to its romantic salons, Gruyères Castle takes you on an adventure through eight centuries of art, history and legends.

Few mins walk from the car park and through a beautiful village. Good experience for photo taking and a little history. Stop by for fondue if possible before getting back to your car.

Existence of This castle goes back to ancient times of Europe. The architecture is absorbing, also there is a museum of castle furnitures, paintings, clothes, armours, etc.

Amazing little medieval village with lots of charm and character. The most amazing thing was the alien bar. Well worth the trip to see this.

Been to this lovely town a few times but this is the first time around the château. Only 12 Swiss francs per adult which is really cheep for Switzerland. It was very atmospheric and a really interesting couple of hours. Highly recommended.

The castle stands at the end of the main street in the medieval village of Gruyeres. The cost of entry is not enormous and well worth the money. A variety of rooms house a considerable number of very interesting artefacts and the views over the...More

We visited this castle for a third time on a rainy day. Our advice to visit the castle only once and on a sunny day. You are sure to enjoy the tour.
