A small jungle experience with a gruesome-insects museum.

The butterfly park is a interesting stop on the road from Penampang to Tambunan. The Sabah authorities seem to make an effort in lining this road with tourist attractions. Further towards Tanbunan is a Rafflesia center and a Botanical garden is under construction. The butterfly park is functioning already several years. It is pleasant to walk around -take your insect... More

It is a pleasant about 1 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu into some beautiful mountain ranges. When we got to the gate we were informed, that unfortunately due to recent weather conditions there was very few butterflies. We received a reduced price. I went with my elderly parents from Switzerland who love plants. They loved all the interesting flours and... More

Took almost 1 hour drive from Kota Kinabalu. Visit here in August and it is not the good time of the year to see butterflies. According to the staff here, the perfect time os in January to April, before noon. Anyway, we paid RM10/pax to enter and spent 1 hour there, looking at the flowers and spot few butterflies. The... Spent about 90mins here. Was rm10 to get in and kids were free. There is a nice room of all the insects that probably at one time been in the park. Hard to imagine all the different kinds of bugs you can see. Nice short walk on the butterfly path although not too many butterflies there are lots of flowers... More

I rented a car in Kota Kinabalu and stopped here on a drive across the Crocker Range to Tambunan. The scenery en route is spectacular, and the butterfly farm was worth a visit. There were quite a few butterflies around (in late December,) but unfortunately none of the orchids were in bloom during my visit.

Just came back from a flora trip to Sabah which includes a trip to the Kipandi Park. Entrance fee was RM10 for Malaysians. This park was originally started by an entomologist, Dr Steven Chew as a conservation project with Sabah Wildlife Department to breed endangered butterflies. Dr Chew is a popular figure in Borneo having discovered a few new species... More

We went to Kipandi butteryfly farm on other Trip Advisor's recommendations and so glad we did. It is not on too many tour itineraries but perhaps with demand it might get there because it is worth it. We negotiated a fare with one of the local taxis for 3 hours which was not expensive and went there. The knowledge of... More

My husband found this little gem online....it's a butterfly and moth park but also they have gorgeous gardens featuring orchids, hoyas and other plants. There are no tours direct so we hired a taxi....Takes approx 45 mins each way depending on traffic in KK but the scenery to the park is absolutely stunning...we were blown away ! We had the... More

Apparently February isn't the best time to see butterflies. And also the fact that very hot temperatures deter butterflies. It was 90 minutes drive from KK town. Despite all that, our visit to the farm was a worthwhile one. Our guide was a friendly person & went through every single details in the farm. Managed to spot a few butterflies and... More
