Good, but not great
Feb 2020
We only spent 1h here, from the parking lot at the south part (at the coast) up to the mountain. We didin’t circle it, since the kids didn’t like to hike during calima. Not bad, but not great as Teide. Very close to the nearby city/village so you are never fully immersed in a lunar like surface. You can’t really climb to the top, which is a pity, we only did 100 m of relative height. Still, I enjoyed the hike, but would probably choose something else if I had oňly limited time on the island. Oh, and the surface is quite challanging, at times lava rocks and other times, bit too thich sand.

An easy hike across relatively young lava flows dotted with unusual endemic vegetation.
Apr 2019
There is a modest loop hike across well-preserved 10,000 year old aa lava flows dotted with several endemic species of euphorbia and other unusual plant species, climbing a small littoral cone that has been cut in half by the sea, and continuing along the eruptive fissure vents for the lava flows on the flank of the Montaña Grande cinder cone. Look for white pebbles of pumice along the ocean shore, small lava tubes that open into the sea, a wide variety of exotic plants both large and small, and shallow pans used by local people to evaporate seawater for salt. This is a pleasant, easy few hours hike through an ecology typical of this portion of Tenerife.

Very easy impressive cactusses
Mar 2019 • Couples
Much easier than a trip to the El Teide volcano, but worth seeing it when having some spare time. The cacti in form of candle holders are impressive. In one hour of time you can get an impression. The paths are well indicated.
If you start in Puertito de Guimar don't think you can easily return using paved car streets when you'd leave the Reserve Natural at its north-west side. Better return on your steps, or take the whole circular tour.

Nice Hike
Jan 2019 • Couples
We went for an enjoyable hike through the Special Nature Reserve. It was very dry & bleak this time of year. Apparently the regular rains did not come. It was still an enjoyable place to visit.

Hiking trails over fields of lava
Jan 2019 • Family
We spent 3 hours circling from Puertito de Güímar around Montana Grande and to Montana del Mar, following the trail along the coast back to the harbor.

The landscape is different from many other hiking grounds to say the least. It is quite barren, and some parts of the trail are strewn with sharp lava rocks, making proper hiking boots or steady sneakers the right choice of shoes.

There are only a few elevation changes along the path, so despite us walking 10km with our 9-year-old, we could have done another loop without problems.

The place is worth seeing, but 3hrs is plenty enough!

exceptional landscape like a painting

best way is to enter from Puertito of Guimar and walk through the vegetation of the nature reserve - artistic, beautiful, with blooming plants and cactus, never seen something similar.

Coastal volcanic spectacular walk
Feb 2018 • Couples
The walk along the coast followed by the cinder cone of Montana Grande is a trip into a full range of volcanic scenery within a manageable two hour period. The trail is tricky underfoot at some points but the views are great. There is no shade but there is excellent swimming opportunities at the end at Puertito de Guimar which was mentioned in our walking guide and the authors were absolutely correct. There are lots of information boards to explain what you are looking at.
