Because I love to snorkel, and because it was winter and thus there were swells with low visibility, and because we were staying in Lahaina, we decided to check out Kapalua Beach. Strangely, it wound up being one of my favorite beaches on Maui, despite my near pathological hatred for tourists and condos, which it has plenty of, both. It... More

Kapalua Beach is lined with condo and timeshare developments but there is public access, with limited parking. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try a different beach. There is some snorkeling off the shore, bathroom facilities, and a beach equipment rental company.

We brought our kids there, age 4, 8 and 10 and they had a great time swimming with the sea turtles. For the younger kids, I highly recommend the new masks that cover their entire face, it really made snorting easy for our 4 year old.

Found parking on the street just outside the beach's public lot. Walked to the north end of the beach, down the stairs and stashed our gear in the "trees" at the edge of the beach. Donned our snorkeling gear (all first-class equipment rented from a local snorkel shop for $27 for the week!) and headed into the water. The reefs... More

Great place to relax and just listen and watch the waves. Great view of the Island of Moloka'i. Very quiet.

The beach is generally secluded by private homes and condos. There is no bathrooms and no food. In the winter waves can be rough and there are a number of surfers daily on the right side of the beach. There is a good amount of rock on the ocean floor. These rocks don't stick up but are flat and can... More

The place was absolutely the best for snorkelling while our stay in Maui. Water depth is low which makes it ideal for beginners. Tide is not strong with rocks surrounding it from both sides. I was able to see ~3 turtles. One of them were just so massive. If you want to see turtles, go toward the right side facing... More

This beach is probably less crowded than others on the island, but that is because it is cold and windy. You cannot rent chairs and umbrellas here (although if you are staying at the Ritz Carlton the hotel will loan you little beach chairs), and we did not see any whales (despite being in the very middle of whale season)... We snorkeled along the West Coast of Maui (except for Molokai Crater) and found that Kapalua Beach was our favorite place to snorkel. There are plenty of fish, easy to snorkel, and saw turtles both times we went.

The waves were overwhelming in most beaches during our visit to Maui. Kapalua Beach was one location where we could snorkel and comfortably play in the water. Good place to bring the family to enjoy.
