Coughton Court has been home to the Throckmorton family for 600 years, this finest of Tudor houses stands testament to a family's courage in maintaining their beliefs. From a position of high favour to one of fear and oppression post-Reformation, the Throckmortons were leaders in a dangerous age, helping to bring about Catholic emancipation in the 19th century.

Explore this story of fascinating personalities through the 'family album' of portraits and Catholic treasures around the house. Coughton is still very much a family home with an intimate feel: the Throckmorton family live here, managing the stunning gardens which they have created.

Was here over weekend of 8th April, a beautiful warm day, Staff were so helpful as I borrowed one of their wheelchairs to get around, couldn't have been any more helpful. The lady who gave a free talk had so much knowledge it was amazing, she knew so much about the family and it was very interesting. We had a... More

A mixture of items and facilties for whole family and all ages. History related to the Gunpowder Plot and members of tea Throgmorton family one of whom is still in residential centre in one section of the main building. Apart from these item the items on show seemed to be a bit random with some understandably family related. Animals and... More

Another National Trust gem with personal touches throughout the family who still live in one wing of this historic house. The house and family association with the Gunpowder Plot is well described by the enthusiastic guides. Although dark and atmospheric throughout because of its links with the catholic revolt it still has the cosy and comfortable feel of a family... More

Visited Coughton to look at Christmas market and the decorations in the house, having visited a few times before. The rooms were sympathetically decorated and the main salon has a huge christmas tree with decorations. There was a local Gilbert and Sullivan Society singing carols which added to the ambiance of our visit.

This is one of the premier National Trust venues in the Midlands and rightly so. We went primarily to look round the house decorated for Christmas and to sample the seasonal market. The house was delightful with each room thoughtfully and attractively decorated for the Festive Season. The staff were particularly helpful. The market however, was a little disappointing with... This house has lots of historical stories behind it and the friendly and helpful staff are very good story teller. They will take your imagination across the centuries and around the world with the stories about the family who owned the house. Don't forget to visit the park behind the house

Went here a few weeks ago with my friend and her 4 year old daughter. I had never been before so was unsure what was in store or what to expect. We went on the woodland walk and encountered the cows, which was an unexpected surprise. We then wondered onto the orchard where we picked both eating apples and cooking... More

A wonder place to visit with lots to see. An introductory talk is available, see the board by the front door for times and worth listening to. Losts to see in the house and go up the tower and view the surrounding countryside (particularly good when the weather is fine). Lots of grounds to wander in and 2 churches to... More
