Walked in at half eight, ordered a drink, asked how old our daughter was, told them 16. We are asked to leave. No under 18s after 7pm!!! There seems to be different rules for different pubs in the same "City" Shan't bother again...

This is a unique experience to me The hornblower blows his horn every evening at 9pm in the market place. Its meant to signify that all is well I believe, so beware if you dont hear him!

A tradition that has been going for centuries - the sounding of the "all clear" at dusk every night - one of the horns used dates to 17th century - the wakeman most obliging to answer any questions

Every evening, without fail, the hornblower blows his horn from the four corners of the monument. Then he blows in front of the Town Hall (or is it City Hall?) He tells you about this tradition and about the history ( a little) of Ripon....More

My wife's cousin who we were visiting told us that we should not miss this nightly 9 PM happening and we were very glad that we did not. The horn blowing and short historical description that followed was both enjoyable and interesting. Even the irresponsible...More
