Overview
More
Ripon Cathedral traces its history back to its foundation by St Wilfrid in 672AD. The Anglo-Saxon crypt of St Wilfrid's church remains and is open to visitors. Choral evensong takes place Tuesday to Friday at 6pm and Sundays at 5.30pm. Details of all services may be found on our website. We are open to visitors daily throughout the year and entry is free, though we rely on generous donations to continue this practice. Most of the building is wheelchair accessible with the exception of the Library and the Anglo-Saxon crypt. There is a touch-screen computer interpretation of the crypt at ground level for those unable to access it.

Always something going on in the cathedral. Still retains it's peaceful and relaxing setting. Place to relax and give thanks for everything that life offers and the wonderful people that are no longer with us. And so steeped in history.

Ripon cathedral is a marvel architecturally; its treasures include carved misericords, victorian organ case, much not-quite-first-class-Victorain-stained-glass (an enthusiasm of mine), many interesting monuments, and crypt chapel. I felt on being there that much joyous prayer has been offered here for hundreds of years. Today it...More

We paused in Ripon on our drive up the country, just for a couple of hours, had tea in a delightful tearoom, and then strolled along to the cathedral. We were greeted by a volunteer, who was very nice and knowledgeable, and happy to talk,...More
