This place was beautiful and is being kept in great shape. The history and the detail of the stone is amazing. Definitely stop by if you are passing through or in the area.

We went thwre and the Abbey was closed off to visitors. Please find a way to allow access all year round. Leave keys with a local maybe? We would have loved to walk around this area. I'll hopefully be near by in future to visit this place.

We came across the Boyle Abbey while driving north on the road less traveled during our vacation. This was a very inexpensive ruin to enter compared to many of the others. When you pay your... More

Interesting ruined abbey (later converted into Elizabethan barracks) in the small town of Boyle. Helpful staff at the visitor centre a useful two-side guide.

Managed to get into this Abbey just before it shut for the season and it didn't disappoint. A simple walk through that describes the history and architecture. Very interesting.

The abbey in Boyle is a real piece of history, well preserved and looked after. You can walk round it at your leisure and the staff are very knowledgable and helpful.

We are staying in Athlone and was looking for a day trip so we went to Boyle. We visited the Boyle Abbey, cost is $4 euro per person, it is a self guided tour, they have restrooms available. They provide a sheet with history and pictures of the unique architecture. We really enjoyed the history.

This is a self guided tour. The only down side is that there is one person at the ticket gate who gives all of the history of the Abby to all visitors which can lead to a line especially with history buffs asking more and more questions. Once you are in the Abby is amazing. The rest of Boyle is... More
